Campbell McLeod
Music Director, Conductor - Richmond Youth Concert Band

Campbell is a native of Richmond and an alumnist of the RYCB. During his time at R.C. Palmer Secondary ('97-'02), Campbell was a member of the RYCB where he played Tuba in the Concert Band and Baritone Sax and Bass Trombone in the Jazz Band. After graduating from Palmer, Campbell continued his instrumental studies at Kwantlen University College on Tuba. In his second year at Kwantlen, Campbell switched majors from Tuba to Voice Performance and continued with his studies in Voice at the University of British Columbia in their Opera Program. During his time at UBC, and after his graduation in 2010, Campbell has performed across Canada and Europe operatically, as well as occasionally playing Tuba with the Fraser Valley Wind Ensemble. (Formerly the Kwantlen Alumni Symphonic Wind Ensemble)

Upon returning to UBC in 2011, Campbell followed his passion for working with young people and sharing his love of music by attaining his BEd in Secondary Music Education in 2013, where he was the recipient of a scholarship for excellence in directing. A year after finishing his BEd, Campbell returned to UBC to work on his Masters Degree in Music Education, which he plans on completing in 2017.

For being so early in his teaching career, Campbell has a wealth of experience with different types of groups and instruments. In his private studio, Campbell teaches Piano, Trombone, Saxophone and Voice. He is currently employed in the Vancouver School District. For the past three years, he has taught at David Thompson Secondary (but will not be returning this year), where he taught both Jazz and Concert Band. Campbell also has experience conducting Opera, most recently with Opera Mariposa and their production of Suor Angelica.

Since 1996, Campbell has been involved with the RYCB in many ways; REHB member, RYCB member, chaperone, clinician, and mentor. He is excited to complete his RYCB journey by taking over for his teacher and mentor, David Fromager, as the newest director of the Richmond Youth Concert Band.
